Impact Factors: Use
and Abuse
|
|
|
The ISI Journal Citation Reports Impact Factor
has moved in recent years from an obscure bibliometric indicator to
become one of the most used (and abused) measure of the quality of a
journal, its research papers, the researchers who wrote those
papers, and even the institution they work in. This first issue
explains what the journal Impact Factor is, its limitations and how
this affects its use.

CERA is a very strong and reputed journal in its field. The Institute
for Scientific Information (ISI), Impact Factor is a measure of the
frequency with which articles are cited in other journals. It is
considered a measure of a journal's influence. They often fluctuate a
bit. Interest in the papers is one primary factor. This factor is
bound to grow with CERA. CERA will have better rating starting year
2000 and later. Because starting with year 2000, CERA became available
online 24/7. Currently, CERA is indexed with more than dozen
abstracting agencies. In circles with university undergraduate and
graduate students, it is generally said that if a Journal isn't online
it probably doesn't exist. With Institute for Scientific Information
(ISI), Impact factor for CERA is listed in two categories, General
Engineering and Engineering-Manufacturing. The following describes the
CERA ISI ranking during the past several years:
